Cheaper method if you're intersted is Dawn dishsoap and hot water or laquer thinner, then Windex (the ammonia based stuff). The Dawn or thinner eats off the oils or grease, and the Windex works good on waxes plus it dries fast and takes any water with it. I use the stuff from the dollar store...
I've used a sand blasting cabinet to refinish a few pistols. I've found I get the best finish if I sand as much of the surface as I can afterwards. I'm sure my sand is coarser than the ceramic media though. Most important is to clean the surface before you coat it after the blasting. With...
