I ordered some bluing to give the rifle a better finish. Once I can find the time I'll try to get it taken apart and give the metal a deep clean & maybe take sand the metal down to help smooth out the finish.
Documenting the find for social media wasn't my top priority, getting it in the truck undetected seemed to take priority. If the place was deserted I might have, but given the circumstances I didn't want to waste the opportunity.
I try from time to time on the lotto, no luck other than a few free tickets.
I try to keep my shenanigans to a minimum now-a-days once I had a few youngin's to keep after.
To be honest though, it was a sweet ride home knowing I lucked into something. They are too few and far between to be...
I got in touch with the local Police & the sargent their was kind enough to run the # for me. So along with the link above and Hotgunz.com there is no claim that this rifle has been stolen or used in a crime.
With that being said, I'm not gonna take it anywhere to have them fire a bullet for...
Forgot to add that the slide release was very stiff, had to use my key to help push it down. They may have thought it was locked up with rust when they handled it.
I get the impression that it was found in somebodies closet after they passed away & tossed thinking it was worthless with the rust on it or they may have thought it was a BB gun.
I'm not one to pass up looking in the dumpsters at the local dump, they don't have an issue with it if it isn't in the steel dumpster.
Went today to take the recyclables in & noticed a water hose reel container & figured I'd give it a second life. After walking around the dumpster I noticed...
I've been thinking of doing this as well. My wife & I decided on naming our son Dean from the show after struggling to come up with a name.
I think once the prices come back down, I'll pick up a Colt Bright Government & think about an engraving job. Would be cool to get Jensen Ackles to take a...
You can check the gas piston length here along with some other info that may help.

I was thinking that someone may have replaced the piston with a paratrooper piston. The regular one is 9 1/2" long, the paratrooper is 8 3/4" long.
Has the gun always acted like this or did it just happen one day?
How long is your gas piston?
Does the recoil spring look bound up like it's curled or is it straight when installed?
The pin was there thankfully, I doubt it was broker down before. The previous owner stated there was ammo still in it from the 70's or 80's when he last used it.
I think my hand is a bit too large for the grips that I have on there now.
Just got around to taking a picture of the old workhorse, and got to fire a few rounds today. Decided to go with a case of Remington 125 gr HTP to get started before I get into reloading it. Those old wood grips didn't do much to tame the recoil of those rounds.
I'll take some a little later, just got it all put back together. These are pretty handy little guns, I plan to rotate this into my ccw once I get some ammo for it.
Just picked up a Ruger Police Service-Six & found this very helpful video online. Just preformed this and it's stupid easy for a thorough cleaning/inspection of a new/used gun.
