Not at all. If you put full weight behind the scraping, yes you could remove too much wood.
No different than sanding too much. A scraper doesnt remove wood like say a chisel so there is
no danger of gouging or peeling wood.

I use a scraper only. Sandpaper only comes into the mix for the final sanding before the finish.
It gums up too much and you waste alot. All the ones I have done the scraper not only removes
what finish is on it but kind of squeezes out any oils that are present. Left to dry a couple days...
You can't go wrong with a pre-built upper. Everything that needs to be done has been done.
All you have to do is make sure all the parts you order are all the same configuration.
