I don't know if this answers your question but right now there is a Belgian A-5 for sale on Gunbroker that is listed as having a Japanese barrel. I'm not sure if it took some "smithing" to accomplish the feat or if it is just a direct fit.
I finally used a single edge razor blade VERY CAREFULLY so as not to get into the finish. I got it all off. Thanks for the input from all of you....Jeff
It is the BL-22 grade 2 with high gloss checkered stock. The paint is very small "specks", there are about 10-12 of them on one side of the butt stock. I tried scraping with my finger nail but had no luck, it must be some pretty tough paint. I will try the hand cleaner and I have some goof off...
