10-30 Hunt

Stepdaughter shot a doe around 8:30am from a stand about 400 yds from where I shot a doe around 7:30am.

Becca found mine...

Fun Morning!

Got shut out this a.m. down at the club. Rain came and pushed me home. Hunted behind the house, got rained on again and saw 4 does.
Congrats to those that harvested animals. Be safe all!

Decided to go back to same stand this evening because the wind was coming from the west and that stand was the most downwind stand on my property.

Saw 5 various aged young buck and some yearlings around 6ish pm. Saw three doe crossing peanut field crest and ranged best doe at 458 yards. Wind was from West @ 7mph. Sig Kilo 2400ABS indicated 5.86 Up and hold wind 1.56 MOA. I dialed elevation to 5.75 up, ranged again to confirm and fired. In hindsight, I should've rounded up to 6 clicks; bullet dropped a little more than expected, or could be my aim point changed during shot...dunno. Couldn't tell if I hit her so I just waited patiently.

When I shot, 4 other deer to my left at 95 yds scattered. I sat still and within ten minutes, I had a 6pt and a small 4pt sparring playfully near my feeder and a button buck eating from food plot. After another 5 or 6 minutes another doe and some yearlings were back at feeder.

With 20 minutes of daylight left, a smaller doe began walking towards my pasture entrance where my side by side was parked. We didn't wash the bed out from this morning's hunt and once she got downwind of the side by side her tail went straight up and she tore out snorting. All the other deer stood looking at her like she was crazy. When she reached the food plot, I counted 7 tails pop up and they all joined in the race to the pines. Fun watching this episode!

I waited another five minutes and climbed down, and went to get Becca dog, so we could hopefully find the doe I shot in the peanut field.

Average doe.

458 yds with 7mph W wind. Shot with 6.5 PRC 147 gr. Hornady ELD-M

Got her in the heart.

Stayed in nursing a sinus infection with a nasty cough. Hopefully nothing serious and will clear up shortly. May try tomorrow evening if I feel better.

Saw somewhere around 20-25 this evening. Mostly does and little ones. One small 1.5 yr old buck that acted like he was in full rut already, dummy was chasing around yearling does.
