10mm bullet weight

Opinion: The early Delta Elites were not up to the task of shooting full power10mm. I have one that has been extensively reworked/customized and after dumping quite a bit of money into it, I only shoot reduced loads or 40S&W with it. I had a 40 Barrel fitted to it.

The 10mm will run well with all bullet weights typically offered. I prefer the 200grain cast lead loads with 6grains of Unique. Since that is a hard combo to find these days, I believe I would lean towards a load of W231, AA#5, or something similar and a 150-180 grain bullet.

I’ve got quite a few reloading books but thought I’d ask for those that have shot the 10mm if the 165’s are decent enough or just buy a box of heavier for the 10.
I use 165 grain in my 10MM all the time. I shoot paper so I'm not worried about the15 grain difference 165 to 180. I shoot both but had some 40 in 165 gr. so I loaded them in the 10. I like 'em. I'm not bear huntin, I'm paper shootin.

My favorite 10mm load is 9.3 gr. of Longshot with a 180 gr. fmj. It's a stout and accurate load for my guns. I dial that down a full grain with a cast 180 from an RCBS mold and powder coat.

thanks guys that gives me some starting points...

I'll probably order one of the MP molds next time I order a few and will update the thread then.

Iirc the 10mm started out with a 170 gr, and then went every direction. The 165 gr will let you hit a 6in steel plate at 100yds with no hold over. Depending on the shooter and hardware of course.

Let the record show that I am not one of those shooters.:yo:

I like VV N340 for 40 and 10mm. The best 40 loads in the 40 mid range energy levels. 165000 power factor are with 200 grain bullets. The 165s are much snappier. The 180 blue bullets have worked good in the limited number I have loaded and shot. ( less than 6000) probably going to start shooting 40 again this spring with a berry plated bullet. I got the 6000 blue bullets from a friend at a good price. I prefer plated when they are almost the same price as polymer coated.
