Yeah, at that range they can't even be walking when you pull the trigger. My default mindset on a very long shot is that I will not pull the trigger and that I might change my mind if everything is exactly right.I had several does and a couple of bucks come into the field this evening. Only problem was they were 400 yards out. I thought about taking a shot on the biggest doe but she kept walking behind some brush so I didn't risk it. It was cool watching one of the bucks make a rub on a tree anyway.
I just didn't like the shot she was offering me. Better to just watch and enjoy them than risk it. I know my drop at that range and believe I can pull it off under perfect circumstances. I also want to aim a little forward and high. My thinking is that if they take a step after the shot they will walk into the path of the bullet and that a high forward hit beats the hell out of a low and to far back hit. I basically aim for a high shoulder shot.
