I had enough gun if I had known the holdover for that distance without needing to reference a ballistic calculator. Didn't expect one to come out where that one did and go the other way, but of course deer don't give a crap where you want them to be.

You need a rifle that will cover the distance of you're farthest possible shot. That buck doesn't use the beaten path, that's why he lived that long to get that big

Yes, that's why I need a rangefinder and a ballistic calculator past 100 yards.

I carry business card cheat sheets in my wallet for the cartridges I hunt with. I'll study it before the hunt. Then I just use my duplex to figure out where to hold it. I actually have a picture drawn on the cheat sheet where the bullet will hit in relation to the crosshairs. Takes the guess work and time out of it. The other is not to hunt in a high cross wind. 5 MPH is my limit. I usually hunt on high ground or a tree. So low wind really helps
