I'm considering buying a new rifle in 17 or 22 magnum but in a quandary as to which to buy. The rifle will be used for target plinking and small game. Brands being considered are Marlin and Savage. Please offer your opinion.

Personally I like the 22 and the 17. But since prices have went crazy, and the supply of ammo, every time I have seen 22 magnum ammo lately, it has been averaging $20.00 per box of 50 rounds, plus tax. Even when the 22lr and 22 magnum can't be found, I have still seen 17 caliber at Wally World. As for a Savage or Marlin, both make good guns, but I like the Savage and the Accu-Trigger. Good Luck, Ray

Range toy and small game, 17 and 22 respectively. Which would you rather be more suited to do?

22 WMR is harder to find... though I've purchased some 6 or 7 times in the last 2 years. So, not impossible.

Or, 22LR and cheaper to shoot, doesn't do either task as well.

I already have two .22 rifles so I would go 22 WMR since bringing down small game is more important to me than small circles at the range. If I didn't already have the .22s, I would just get a .22...
