1851 Pietta 45 Colt Stainless Engraved

Yep....the uberti opentops i've worked were much better finished cosmetically but hells bells this one is rough inside.

As for the Uberti's.....every one I've had was broken in the box....loose arbors, short arbors, stuck parts, etc.

I'll take to pietta internal tool marks over a broken in the box uberti any day.

I suppose so. For the longest time I wouldn't waver from the big 3. But have learned the Italians make some nice firearms. I have a few cartridge conversions myself. They are very nice. Probably because they are older. I noticed the hammer was a cast part on yours

Yes. Pietta still generally using cast and hardened internal parts with Uberti starting to use some mim internal parts.

Polyurethane grips. Jigged buffalo horn style. Affordable grips but dayum!!!! the fit.....ouch.

So, already roughed in goo at the frame interfaces, its set.....time to build up a long the front strap.

Some scotch tape on the back side of each grip panel and then assemble.

Mix up the JB Weld Plastic Bonder Black. Scuff the front edges of the grip panels and clean with alcohol (before mixing the goo!) to promote adhesion.

Slather on the black goo, pull it out smoothly with the tip of a finger, clean out any that gets in the jigged area with a qtip.

Set it aside and....Wait.

When set but still soft enough to cut without cheese stringing (using you're greased razorblade on the left over in the mix pile to know when), trim it flush with the curvature of the grip.

Later, when fully set, remove the grips, peel off the scotch tape, refine the cut edge with steel wool or very fine sand paper, lightly buff the epoxy and polyurethane grip with steel wool or what ever to blend it all together.

Shouldn't have to do this, $60 grips oughta fit a little tiny bit better. But, now u know. I think plastic bonder comes in white and grey too......so, theres that as well.

I'' get a finish photo up later....
