I decided to put a few magazines of my carry ammo through the XDs this afternoon. I wanted to test for function and try to recover a few rounds. These are all 185gr Speer Gold Dot.
The first shots were essentially the control shots. These Rounds were recovered after shooting through 2 pressure treated 2x4's into a loose dirt hillside. Distance was 20'
The rounds were recovered 15" into the hillside.
As you can see, zero... Nada.... Zilch expansion. Not surprising since dirt doesn't readily lend itself to expanding a JHP.
The next group was shot through 2 pressure treated 2x4's and into a gallon jug of water. Also fired at 20' It was recovered 8" in the hillside. I fired 3 but only found one.
The last one I recovered was shot into a gallon milk jug full of water then penetrated a second jug and was recovered 7" in the hillside. The first jug exploded, the second just had jagged 2" wounds.
The moral of this story.... When milk jugs attack, catch em in the open.
