Hey guys, I had a compact RIA "tactical" posted f/t a week or so ago. I decided to hang onto it and try my hand at duracoating. I have a good friend who is an airbrush artist who will be helping me out. I guess the biggest decision I need to make is what color scheme? And do I need to remove the factory finish or can I just degrease it and paint over it? I like the O/D and the Dark earth/black and several others. Just can't decide what yet.

I really would love to see some pretty duracoated 1911 pics so let's see em!

I duracoted several guns. I degreased, sanded with 600 grit wet/dry (used it dry), and wiped it down really really well with laquer thinner. They all turned out well. You don't have to remove old finish. The key is to have the surface scuffed up enough so the new finish will adhere and make sure it's exremely clean. My .308 deer rifle has held up really well after a couple of seasons
