I wish he was still doing full builds. Does he still offer refinishing? I’d love my old Baer to get some fresh life.

My TRS with his sights

He never did refinishing. Any finishes done on anything in his shop are sent out for that sort of work.

What kinda finish are you wanting done?

Yeah I figured he didn’t, but I was hoping to get some new sights and a full refinish at one place. (Or have an FFL ship the gun out, because otherwise it seems to add $200+.)

I’m thinking about a DLC or hard chrome. Every once in a while I’ll watch too much TV and think about gold, but that’s a bit much even for me.

Ok...You guys probably need a good laugh, so I thought I'd post my "experiments".

I was looking for a threaded barrel for one of my 1911's back when I first got a suppressor, so of course, I jumped online and started searching. I think I ended up on the Brownell's site, and they only had one in stock, so I went ahead and bought it. Well, what I didn't think about until it got delivered, is that they don't include the threads in the measurement! Duhhhh, LOL...So I ended up with a 6" barrel, not including the threads!

I started to send it back, but then I started thinking...yeah, thinking crazy! I had several 1911's with comps on them, and I grabbed one and held the barrel up to it to check the length. Hmmm, it was the perfect length...I wonder, will it work?

That threaded barrel wasn't cheap, and I really didn't want to start filing on it to get it to fit and then not be able to return it...so I grabbed the Tisas out of the safe, which also had a comp on it. That Tisas actually shoots great, but I figured it would be my best chance, since the tolerances are not quite as tight as most of my others.

So I took the Tisas apart and to my amazement, that barrel dropped right in there...and fit PERFECT! After looking it over a bit, then hand cycling and running dummy rounds through it without a hitch, I figured what the heck. I took it to the range the next day, and it shot like a damn laser beam and worked perfect with my suppressor! I couldn't believe it!

To make a long story even longer, I ordered several more threaded barrels that were the correct length for some of my other 1911's...and a couple of them were black barrels instead of stainless. Again, I started thinking...and thought that one of those black barrels would look really good in that Tisas, since everything on the gun was black except the barrel. So I took the 6" stainless barrel out of the Tisas, and fitted one of the black barrels to it instead. Which does look really good completely black now.

I had a Kimber Stainless II with a comp as well, so I figured that 6" barrel would look pretty good in that one. So with just a little fitting, it dropped right into the Kimber. So on the next range trip, I took it along to try out...and again, it was laser beam accurate and worked perfect with my suppressor. So I think that barrel now has a forever home with the Kimber.

I know that when I take it to the range, anyone that knows anything about 1911's or guns in general, will think that I'm an idiot. I can hear them now..."Look at that moron with the barrel sticking out of the compensator!!!", "That comp isn't going to do anything!", "Ha, Ha, Ha...What an IDIOT!"

But it's all good, because it shoots awesome...and that's all that matters to me! :)
