.22 LR plinking rifle suggestions

Marlin 795. Low cost, last round bolt hold open. Add a set of Tech Sights and a 1 1/4" sling, sign up for an Appleseed event to learn how to shoot without one of those sissified bipods.

Heck, sign up for an Appleseed event no matter which one you pick!

another vote for the Marlin 795.
accurate, reliable, and affordable. I paid $119 for mine and it gets more trigger time than my 10/22s.

The Savage FVSR would be great, if the mags didn't suck. But they do.
The FV-SR mags are flimsy and NOBODY makes an aftermarket mag. If somebody would design a high quality alternative to the factory mags they would rake in the cash.

The comb on the factory stock is also way too low, but there are aftermarket stocks available or you can just add a riser.

All that being said, I still LOVE this gun. With it’s heavy barrel and accutrigger it’s a tack driver! It’s also an AWESOME suppressor host.

I've seen so many damn failures with their mags. Feeding issues are number one. Have a seen a few spew all rounds out onto the ground. If they would just improve their mags and the interface of the mags to the rifle, it would be great.

The whole design for that mag just sucks. Too much outward pressure on the feed lips will make the tack welds on the sides break loose and then that mag is DONE.

I was letting @FrogHunter ‘s nephew shoot mine last summer and he forced a bullet into the mag backwards. The feed lips spread, the tiny welds came loose and that mag was toast.

I wish I had the equipment and talent to do some 3D printing. I’d design and produce my own FV-SR mag bodies that used the springs and followers from the factory mags.
