22 Mag or 17 HMR

Between the two, I would say 17hmr. I had a Marlin 17hmr that I loved to shoot. I made the mistake of selling it and getting a 22wmr savage. Even though the savage is a tack driver, I just like the 17 more.

Scored a 8 boxes of .17 WSM at Academy early last year at $14.99 a box and helped a member out on here with a couple for same price. It will definately devistate crow, squirrel or rabbits! The Grendel P30 is a blast to shoot. Mine has original box, 2 clips and only missing muzzle brake. I have never failed to empty all 30 rounds. Berry's in Griffin has the .22 Mag Maxis from time to time but were $17 or $18 a box. I picked up a great deal on .22 WMR 30 gr V-MAX as well as a brick of CCI Quiet at great pricing.

Franklin Armory makes the .17 WSM in an AR platform although it is rather pricey, it is an alternative to the B-Mag. I visited a forum of B-Mag owners who were really dissing rifle as they could not shoot 1/2MOA groups at 100yds. Many sent back to Savage. I have no issues with mine, but I would prefer to own an stainless bull barrel version.

For the 17 or 22?

I don't ever see any, one guy I talked to said they took the 22 mag off their MOD. I ordered 5000 rounds from KYGUNS supposed to be here today' I have 3 22 mags 2 17 hmr's and 17 wsm there's a bad round and you can find it more so than the other two.

I have the stainless bull barrel now I had the regular, prefer the bull.

Yep, I'm the same way. I have nothing against Savage, but the reviews I've read indicate that accuracy is spotty at best.
I love the .17HMR and I love my Savage. I definitely wouldn't call it's accuracy "spotty". It's probably one of the more consistent guns I've ever shot. We were shooting bottle caps at 100 yards and then realized we could hit the nail holding the bottle cap to the backstop just as consistently.

depends on the particular rifle that you get and what its main purpose is.
In a full sized rifle with a full length barrel the 17 HMR is going to be superior in range and accuracy, just review which caliber comes out on top in competition.
down side for the 17 is that on bad cross wind situations you have more wind drift than the 22 WMR will.
the 17 is quite a well designed cartridge, basically at very close ranges the projectile will disintegrate in most all game, so little if any over penetration, at longer ranges expansion is really good so not a lot of over penetration.
lets face it I wouldn't choose either caliber for and Elk hunt but for flat out small varmint hunting to plinking I give the edge to the 17 myself.
