.223 Ammo

adadovic are we talking about two different ammos? Because the ammo I am talking about is made right here in the good ol US of A. NATO just means it is up to army specs.

PMC is a South Korean corporation. I believe all of their ammo is made in South Korea. NATO is not a brand per se...it means that the ammo was produced in a NATO approved facility. The PMC stuff is pretty darn good for target shooting.

If we're talking about target/plinking ammo and both are $299 for 1000rounds I rather get the one where I dont have to pay shipping for it.

im still a .223 noob when it comes to all the different models and the # of grains so I mostly buy target ammo

The taxes you would pay on the ammo is going to be about the same as the shipping cost. So it comes down to what ammo you want and how fast you need it. The shipping normally does't take that long. I like to keep an extra 500-1000 rounds on hand so even if it does take a little longer it doesn't bother me. One quick word of advice don't shoot 5.56 out of a gun that is rated for .223. The 5.56 is rated for a lot higher pressures. I don't know if you have a 223 or a 5.56 but it would be a good idea to check and buy the correct ammo.

I have RRA stamped 5.56 and .223

I'll probably get corrected, but it's my understanding is that a 5.56 or 5.56/.223 marking means you can shoot either ammo in it. If it's marked .223, it's chambered for .223 only. The rounds are slightly physically different, 5.56 cases are thicker, and 5.56 generates higher pressures (hotter). Mini-14's are rated 5.56/.223, but aren't marked, unless the new ones are.
