.22LR suggestions for youth

Thanks Freedom.

I figured the Henry probably was not the way to go with the Appleseed. I was thinking of the cricket for the young one. She wants the pink one....LOL. My son yes, you are correct can handle anything. I'll have to look at the marlin 795.

I can't make it to the Macon or roswell event when I looked at our schedule. I was looking to go to the one in Summerville in September.
Go with the Savage Rascal you will be glad you did. My daughter was having a hard time pulling back the cocker on the cricket .

Ruger just came out with the new collectors edition. Stock with adjustable length of pull, nice peep style iron sights, sling swivel studs, it's basically an Appleseed gun to begin with. Just add a sling.

I have a thread on it in the firearms talk forum

It looks almost the same as the 50th. Anniversary design contest 10-22 that was designed by an Appleseed instructor. It has the same sights as a mini 14. It's the rifle I use and loan out to students. I did replace the rear sight with a Tech sight, so sight adjustments are easier to make.

I bought a Cricket when my oldest was 6 (about 3 years ago). Overall it is a great shooter I have killed several squirrels and rabbits with it, thinking of using it as a survival, backpack small game getter.

BUT... fit and finish are subpar. The action was very rough, a young kid can not cock it from the prone position and the trigger SUCKED. I put several hours into cleaning the action and FCG up. Its better now and the kids love shooting it (they loved it anyway as long as I cocked it) but I wish I had spent a little more up front and got the Savage.
