hello peeps. was wondering if anyone might have a reloading manual that shows a 170 gr 30cal .308 load? I cant find anything in the 5 I have, I see Hornady list a few loads for 150-155 r bullets, I was wondering if the 168 gr load data would work for 170 gr just load them on the low side of the 168 gr, the reason I'm asking I have about 300 speer 170 gr 30-30 bullets I was going to load a few for the 30/06 at 30-30 velocity. these will be shot from a 18" barrel carbine Remington 742 woods master, so I know all about not to hot road this gas gun and beat the snot out of it. the old girl only likes 180 rem core lokt factory loads. trust me I've tried every bullet powder combo I could and cant beat the factory Rem 180 core lokt rounds. my hope is maybe I can find a mild load using the 170 gr pills. I made a few dummy rounds for testing the magazine feeding manually the seem to work and feed fine. sorry for the long question explanation

Have you tried the Winchester Reloading site? It's free to use. I do see 168 and 173 bullet weight data listed there (only). https://hodgdonreloading.com/rldc/

I would just find the closest thing and use 168 low-end data to start. Sounds like you may have loaded a round or two though. Most bullets vary slightly in weight anyway out of the box. Go slow, enjoy!

Update, well I was able to find another 2 boxes of Winchester power point 150gr 30-30 bullets. So i loaded up 5 rounds from the speer manual IMR 4895 @ 45.5 GRAINS. muzzle velocity says 2543, thats from a 24" barrel i have a 18" barrel witch should put me at 30-30 velocity, so I went out and shot all 5 at 100 yards and to my surprise I got about 1.5 " and average velocity was 2393 fps. And better yet it was just about half inch to the left of bullseye. Pretty sweet don't really need to touch the scope it's deer good. I'm going to load up 5 more and make sure I get simular results with this old 742 carbine. Maybe I can use the girl this year and pawpaw will be proud. Pretty happy with the results with this gun. It's been a wild ride trying to find something it likes with out killing the action.
