As cartridges either is as good as the other. But for shooting coolness and cache I'd much rather spend the rest of my life shooting a Springfield, Edystone and Garand than a FN, AR or SKS.
Well for that matter the 30-40 Krag has 'em both beat for coolness.
Short, strong, and very efficient, the .308 is hard to beat. I own more .308's than any other caliber, but the 30-06 is a classic in it's own right. As stated in previous post the .308 can never match the oturight performance of the 30-06 in the proper package. I wouldn't want to be without either. Chuckdog
