Want to buy a .308 semiauto hunting rifle I do not want an ar set up for hunting. Any information is greatly appreciated.

The Browning BAR hunting rifles are nice, but expensive. $800-$1300 depending on the model.
I myself use a Springfield M1A, but that's also a pretty expensive gun, and the scope mount/ base isn't cheap either. $100- $200 for just that part.
The CETME rifles from Century Arms International are a lot of gun for the money, but I don't know how easy they are to scope. I wouldn't trust the receiver's dimensions and holes and slots to be cut in exactly the same places as the H&K rifles.
Remington 740's and 7400's don't have a great reputation for reliability, but if you find one that works and the price is right, why not take a chance?
FN has the FN-FNAR black-stocked semi-auto hunting rifle that's not quite as military-looking as an AR. It's really expensive, too. $1800 retail.
Benelli has the R1 big game rifle in .308, among other calibers. It can come with a black or camo synthetic stock, and it's a sporting gun, not a paramilitary gun.
Saiga's .308 used to be affordable, but now that there's an import restriction on Russian guns... not available, not reasonably priced anymore.
