.308 Semi Auto Rifle Options

Huge fan of the FAL, the three I have had were flawless performers, and never let me down.
I really just wished they had better platforms for optics.
I do not have one now though...

Mine has a rock solid rail on top, but the name escapes me at the moment. My scope doesn't budge but that's just my experience. I will go back and try to find name of it.

Only .308 Ive ever had is the one I just got. DPMS AP4 Panther LR .308. I have about the same plans for mine as you......my primary purpose is hunting. But I dont reload. Seems to be a jam up rifle. I only have 10 rounds through it right now....working on the break in. I feel confident I will be hunting with it for a long time, and should the need arise............

FYI... You'll probably only get three or four reloads after running brass through an M1A.

That might not be a problem, just thought I'd mention it.

definitely good to know... are semi autos overall more abusive to brass than bolt actions? Would it be reasonable to expect a reduced brass life in any semi auto?

and by "jam up" i hope you mean a "great and reliable rifle that doesnt actually jam" ... lol

start collecting them all! and then start the surplus ammo collection. I cant say which I like more though, the cetme/g3 variants by far feel the strangest to me, but i like them. The length of pull is different for all of them as well so ergo's is a consideration.

I think there is an obvious omission since you didn't mention a budget. SCAR 17. Now that magazines are shipping in quantity, that major drawback is becoming a non-issue. Less than 8lb unloaded. If you haven't shot one, try it before considering other 308 options.

FNAR! Mine seems to love everything that I have fed it ... it has a huge appetite though ... you can blow through a 20 round magazine in nothing flat!

Oh and it is as accurate as they advertise (Less than 1 MOA), yet rugged enough to take-to-the-woods ... Just don't try to use a bipod as it seems to ruin its natural harmonics(?)
