Morning folks,

picked up an FNX45 to use as a host for my Obsidian 45. I hand load .45 230 grain lead round nose for my 1911's without issue. Clean for the most part.

Ran a magazine of these through my Obsidian and holy cow...one mag had the first few baffles caked in lead. I understand that lead ammo can do this over time, but is it normal to have one magazine make such a mess? I run lead through my .22 can and it takes a while to create any sort of mess.

Is there something about the loads I'm using that could cause excessive leading in the suppressor? Bullseye and WLP primers. Very light on the powder (5 grains).

Thoughts? Is this just the nature of using lead? I typically run powder coated bullets through my other cans without issue.

Thanks,

That’s not lead. It’s powder residue. A cleaner load would help.

You’ll notice in rim fire blazer or low quality ammo will came up baffles way more than say cci or match ammo

Are you sure? That looks like a nice clean coating of vaporized lead and why not to shoot 22lr through a sealed suppressor unless you want to clean it with dip.

This is what my obsidian baffles look like, haven't cleaned them in years. Mostly carbon buildup.

It’s definitely lead. Melts off under heat. Metallic.

I run bullseye in multiple suppressors and none of them look like this.
