.45 ACP Who's a believer?

Blah, blah, blah, shot placement, blah, accuracy, blah. How about shooting a bigger round ACCURATELY. That's why I practice with all of my .45s often. I'll leave my 9mm at home whenever there's a chance I might have to defend myself. It might not make a huge difference but I'd rather not take the chance.

Original Colt 1911 -.45acp made in 1918. Used to be my Dad's daily carry for 30+yrs it's mine now, and Nothing shoots better in my hands.

People have made very good arguments for other calibers. I know objectively that pretty much all the handgun calibers are "weak" relative to, say, 12ga or .308. I know a miss with a .45 is still a miss and all that. I know a .44mag will blow your head clean off and a 7.62x25 will blow right through both sides of soft body armor. I own, shoot, and sometimes carry a 9mm or a .380...but when the going gets tough and I can just grab one, I'm grabbing my P220 and not thinking twice about it.

Here's my take on the 45acp. For years as a young fella I carried a gen1 Glock 23. I thought that was the best pistol made. I've never considered myself a good shot with any handgun and never used much other than the G23 that I had. My dad purchased a P220 which was my first 45 I'd ever fired. Immediately I realized the recoil is much more mellow with subsonic ACP loads. Then after a few years I had the chance to fire a friends 1911. Holy crap I could actually hit ****. Amazing to say the least. Now I know Glocks are capable of great accuracy but not in my hands.
So that's why I carry a 1911 in 45ACP.
