I love shooting my 6.5, the recoil is so manageable I can target shoot all day with no issues so its the hunting caliber I get most practice with. I read all the hate online for hunting deer with it as well as the people who love it so I tried for myself and wanted to share my experience. Got in the deer stand at 6:15 am and shot a good sized buck at 6:59am, he spun around and dropped without taking a single step! I wonder how many creedmoor haters out there have even tried it on a deer ? I think the online hate may come from stories of new hunters with poor bullet choices and misplaced shots. Mine was a neck shot but I dont recommend that unless you are well practiced and your gun is very accurate.

I don't hunt with a 6.5 but my gf does. She's only shot 3 deer with it but 2 were over 230 lbs and dropped in their tracks. The other made it less than 25 yds after the shot. Shot placement and proper bullet selection are key.

I hunted with a 6.5 creedmoor back in 2015 and all I could find was a 120 gr bullet I killed several deer with it. I had to 2 shoot 3 of them before I placed a perfect shot right behind shoulder . The bullet would go through them so fast they acted like they wasn’t hit and would walk off. I haven’t shot one ever since. But I would try again with the new ammo that’s out now and heavier bullets.

I suggest 140 grain federal fusion if they are accurate from your rifle.good expansion and excellent retention weight.

My opinion is the 6.5 CM is a worthy option for hunting whitetail deer. Similar story with my wife but the only difference is she shot her buck in the back hip area at 77 yds. It never took another step. Dropped and died in its tracks. When cleaning it, it did not appear to hemorrhage or did not hit femoral artery either. Her first and only buck.
