So ive got this Remmy 870 HD 12 gauge pump that ive added a couple upgrades to... Six position adjustable stock, pistol grip, six shell side saddle, tri-rail forend with front pistol grip, 150 lumen tactical light, laser, heat shield up top, and sling that holds 15 shells. Its pretty intimidating to say the least! And to be honest, its my very first shotgun, ive had it since February. It has opened up a this wonderful world of guns to me, and i love it! I drive my girl crazy with my new obsession. Anyhow, i am proud of this particular gun, and i do carry it around every once in a while on the seat of my standard cab silverado. Its my understanding that the state of Ga. has adopted the "home extension" law, which says its legal to have a weapon in your vehicle. Whats gonna happen if i get stopped by the fuzz for something when its in the truck with me?? I want a less expensive New England HD pump 12 gauge to put behind the seat so i can just leave this Schwarzenegger looking death stick at the house. Good idea?

Welcome to the addiction and the only support you will get here is to support that addiction.

A pump shotgun is a versatile weapon and is the artillery when it really hits the fan. Buck shot out in the open has been used with good results and slugs are typically combat accurate out to 100 yards or more. A slug can crack and hole an engine block and disable a vehicle.

Inside the truck as a primary its limitations are simply its length. It is hard to maneuver within a car with most shotguns. A "truck" or "car" gun IMO needs to accessible and retain the ability of maneuverability within the confines of the vehicle. It should also be able to penetrate another vehicle fairly easily and still retain enough bullet/projectile mass and accuracy to still be effective (as possible). Turn cover into concealment when able.

Your carry gun (you really need a CCW for out in the general public) should work well enough on soft targets (jacket, t-shirt or if you profile-hoodies) at close distances.

If you are committing a crime and have a gun on you it can/will escalate the charges to a felony. For that exact reason I never carried when I rode my sport bike up in the mountains. Not to say I was committing a crime but let's just say it was and has been a wise choice for me with all the increased LEO presence in the Mountains.

Don't be doing anything that could get you arrested and you have no real worries when pulled over unless you have warrants or it is illegal to for you to have a gun. Just mind your manners and know your legal rights.

Lastly, get some basic safety training on weapons handling, then if able try to get some quality training from a pro. Mindset, experience and training are what repeatedly win a fight.

Awesome! Thanks everybody for the comments and advice! im definitely going to be trying to get some pics together. And im not one to commit any crimes by any means, i have just concerned myself with a couple "what ifs" since ive had the gun. Ive been around guns and other sorts of weaponry all my life, so im not a stranger of it by any means, this one is just the first one i can actually call mine. And its a beautiful thing!

Georgia has not adopted the "home extension" law, mostly because there is no such principal. "Home extension" is not mentioned anywhere in the law or court decisions in Georgia. Georgia has adopted a specific law that allows you to carry a gun in your automobile, but that privilege has nothing to do with your home.

What's going to happen if you are stopped by the local PD with your pride and joy sitting on the front seat? You are probably going to receive extra scrutiny, especially if it as you describe, a "death stick" and especially if you anticipate getting stopped by "the fuzz" while your "death stick" is laying on the front seat. The degree of scrutiny will be inversely proportional to the urgency with which you need to arrive at your final destination.

Just a few excerpts taken from Senate Bill 308:

(a) Any person who is not prohibited by law from possessing a handgun or long gun may have or carry on his or her person a weapon or long gun on his or her property or inside his or her home, motor vehicle, or place of business without a valid weapons carry license.
(b) Any person who is not prohibited by law from possessing a handgun or long gun may have or carry on his or her person a long gun without a valid weapons carry license, provided that if the long gun is loaded, it shall only be carried in an open and fully exposed manner.

You don't HAVE to have a Ga Carry License but it sure would make life a lot easier if you want to carry anything around with you.
