98 Toyota Camry engine replacement.

If the rest of the car is in good condition a DIY engine swap could be viable. A professional swap might be less so, however, given the price of used cars right now it still might make sense, better the devil you know than someone else's unloaded problems.

I have a friend who's 98 Toyota Camry engine died. I don't think he's in a place to just junk the car, and get something new.

That being said, anyone have any ideas on getting a replacement engine? Pull one from a junkyard? Maybe buy a remanufactured long block from Auto Zone?

Any suggestions would be welcomed.
27 yo car?
Unless it was some kind of high demand classic, or super low mileage, I'd scrap it for something much newer.
Too much stuff just waiting to break, one piece after another. Money pit.
