Didn't the AF try to phase these out a couple/few times??

They were on the chopping block a few times. Due to the nature of the fighting in Iraq and Afghan, they will stick around to 2024. They are extremely well suited for CAS (Close Air Support) for ground troops. We recently upgraded them to the A-10C model. Mostly changes made to the avionics/weapons capabilities bring it to a more modern platform. It can now keep pace with our advanced weapons such as the JADAMs. Its a hard airframe to maintain due to its age, and some parts ave become hard to get. Companies stopped making them years ago cause it was on the Phase out program. We have tapped out our supply system and AMARK (Bone yard at Davis Monthan AFB in AZ)
