Advice for economical wood grips for S&W 686 ?

Hey guys, it's been a few years since I regripped any revolvers, so I don't know what's what these days.
I recently traded into one of my grail guns (after 40 years of wanting one!!), the venerable Model 686 !! (Yes, thank you, I AM stoked!)
It came with the perfectly serviceable but decidedly boring Hogue rubber grip, and I thought I'd at least look into putting some sort of "real" grips on it.
Sadly, I ain't got the disposable funds to just pay retail on something truly nice, or I wouldn't be pestering you guys now (which means the inevitable recommendations for $100-150 grips, and cliches like "buy once, cry once", simply aren't going to help me.)
I recall years ago putting some quite nice foreign made grips on a couple Rugers, but again, I'm out of the loop, and hoping for some current Intel.
The revolver is an early 80s no-dash, square butt, and leans a little more towards bedside-beater than pampered safe queen.
I've probably over-blabbed already, so.....you get the idea.

Thanks, Altamont makes nice stuff (as I understand), but it looks like their full sized combat grips are out of my $$ range.
I did just stumble on in ebay vendor out of Thailand ( Jaruwan) that I believe I've dealt with before. He has great reviews and looks to have some decent options, for as little as $45 shipped (on the proverbial slow boat, no doubt ).

Economical, and comfortable can be at the opposite of the spectrum... what works for me, a left handed guy with big palms and skinny short fingers might not be the same for the guy with ham hocks and kielbasa digits...
I tend to buy a lot of grips, some I modify some just don't work for me and they get passed on... a lotvright here on ODT.
THEN there is the make them to what fits me...
Off the shelf I kind of prefer PACHMAYR Wood ones...

Eagle makes some real nice ones... way too much $$ for most of us to even "test" out...

There is a guy in Costa Rica who is making some very nice Smith grips, a company in Turkey doing a good job on Beretta and CZ... BOTH are on Ebay/Etsy/secret mini sights... LOTS of talented CNC guys these days...
Different times, different production methods...
