Aircraft losses in Vietnam

No, never saw camo before but that was called SAR (sea air rescue) mission aircraft, I think out of Udorn or U-tapao Thailand. They had their own set of rules. They weren't called unless the sh1t was deep. Normally, they'd get called for fast-mover etc. rescues because we had lots more experience in this kind of thing and got our own out.

Those things rock!

I love how you see the rounds hit, but you only hear the sound of the gun about 5 seconds later!

This one is particularly sweet!

The A-10 is beautiful. I have been close enough to see a few training on a live fire range and I was in awe.

Thats very interesting. I would have expected to see way more Thud losses (F-105) than F-4 losses. I also had no idea that we shot down that many Mig 21s. For a long time the North Vietnamese only had like 17 of them in their entire air force and they were so afraid of losing them that they only sent them up after easy targets. (usually Thuds)

Amazing to think that the airplane that was once the most feared opponent of the US Air Force is now a toy that can be bought on ebay. They really aren't all that expensive either. The airplane pictured below was just listed for $75k in flying condition. You would be surprised at how many fighter jets are now being owned and flown by civilian collectors with no military background. There are even a few people in this country that own Mig 29s and Sukhoi SU-27s. (modern fighters that rival our F-15s and F-18s)
