ambi bolt release will not fit

I have a panther lower that I tried to put a magpul ambi bolt release on..no go. the original bolt release fits too tight to allow the add on..Do I need to replace the bolt release with another that sticks out further?...also any pros and cons to the lever? thanks

I'm left handed and the standard bolt release works best for me. I use my left index finger.
