My only option to carry at work is an ankle set-up, period.
a good LE friend carries a Glock 42 in a Galco cop ankle band which is what I want to use. I'd prefer a 9mm over a 380. Tried my wife's LC9s in a Blackhawk ankle holster and to was too much in the way of bulk. Carry position will be right draw on the inside of my left leg. I wear mid height boots so the location of the rig will be slightly higher than if it were regular shoes if that makes any difference. My preference would be a single stack 9mm. The smallest, thinnest I can find is a PF-9. I've compared the PF-9, Glock 43, LC9S and the S&W Shield on paper. As far as the overall footprint of the weapon, the PF-9 has an edge. I could drop down to a 380 and in that caliber, I really like the LCP II. Is a 9mm really that superior to the 380? Im aware ammo choice is the most important relating to effectiveness. Love me some Gold Dots. What are your suggestions? Real world feedback would be great also. Thanks in avdance

When it comes to concealmeant, I've had two ankle holsters that did not use the calf strap to help hold them up. Both of those holsters would sink down and sit on top of my shoes. They were clearly visible (the bottom inch of them, and the gun's muzzle) when I was sitting down which caused my pant legs to hike up a couple inches higher than they would be when I am standing.

I have carried both an alloy frame 38 snubby on my ankle and a compact 9 mm that held a total of 13 rounds. Naturally the 5-shot lightweight revolver was easier to carry ; it was both smaller and lighter. The compact 9mm was bulkier and the grip frame stuck out noticeably. The J-frame revolver had to much tinier grip.

A .380 is definitely lower powered that either a 9 mm or 38 special, but I think it is a more suitable gun for ankle carry than most 9 mm. A 9 mm semi auto is not only going to be bigger and heavier, but the center of balance is more towards the back of the gun because of all that ammo in the handle that makes it inherently less stable and wants to pull away from your leg.

P.S. the 9 mm I used was basically the size of a Glock 26.
If you find a contact 9 that is much smaller than that, give it a try!

I've never tried to ankle rig carry. It seems like a last resort. An alternative might be a Kel Tec P3AT in an Uncle Mike's pocket rig. Or the same rig with an LCP or Bodyguard 380.
If you just have to go the ankle rig route then any of these pistols would fit the bill . I like Kel Tec stuff but not so much the PF9. I've owned one and now I own a Taurus 709 Slim which is a much better single stack 9. Although it's probably on the big side for ankle rig carry.
Also if you plan to use an ankle rig it seems to me you will need to go with low top shoes. If you use mid height or high top boots it's gonna be a big old clumsy mess trying to ankle carry.
BTW my wife carries a Kel Tec P32 in the pocket rig when we're not at work and even without wearing a belt it doesn't pull one side of her pants down or print. It's a decent setup. I'm pretty sure that he phone inside the rubbery protective case was more than the pistol.

First and foremost what ever holster and pistol combo you use make sure it is tight so when you have to ninja kick or spinning back kick it doesn’t fly off and hit an innocent bystander. Dont ask me how i know!!
