You have to use the raptor grip to get to the all important 26", yes. The pistol grip it comes with is a in this application.

Good practice to follow for sure.
Maverick makes a convertible pistol/regular stock straight from the factory and has for years-and as the pic shows it comes with the regular stock attached. Dont see atf closing them up anytime soon, so the water is a bit muddy. Anyone have an atf letter on all this?

I DO use only virgin stripped lower if I build an AR pistol.

Don't do that. You have to use a receiver that came with a pistol grip. These are referred to as PGO (pistol grip only) guns. The NFA states that a PGO is NOT a shotgun and it must have been received with a pistol grip and not a stock.

They look cool but like most things that look cool they are not very practical. I did some research on these and I found that most people that have them admit that a pistol is much more practical for home defense than a PGO.

So basically you would need to start with a Mossberg Cruiser that came NIB with just the pistol grip. And it has to be at least 26" OAL.

Yeah, I would too. See, as soon as I saw this thread I assumed it was an SBS or an AOW. The fact that it isn't is VERY cool and makes me want one.But I can see potential for all kinds of nightmarish hassles from less informed law enforcement. Unfortunately there are lots of folks who know nothing of OAL and this ruling .( I don't wanna say loophole ) Most people would just lay a tape measure on the barrel and then wanna cuff you up. So I see something like this collecting dustin the safe rather than being a truck gun.

I was wondering what the legal status would be if it had a rifled slug barrel. I wanted one of them 11" Cobray side by side derringers in 410/45 Colt. And what makes it legal is having the rifling in the barrels. Even though the rifling isn't that good. That legally makes it a handgun.
