My wife and I are looking at this house and the only reason for not buying it is the spiral staircase going from the 1st level (dining, kitchen and laundry) to the second level where the bedrooms are. I'm trying to figure out how to replace thing and how much it would cost?

We are 60 and going up and down a narrow spiral won't get easier.

Most likely, the reason it has a spiral staircase is there's probably not enough room for a traditional staircase. you would lose 1/3 of the living room and lost of the upstairs landing. This is due to ceiling hight on the main floor being low.

I see on the 2nd level there is a ladder leading to another level…
Maybe get yourself a scissor lift and park it under the opening…
Seriously, looks like a structural nightmare to me, if you are considering adding a normal, straight stairwell from 1 to 2. That ceiling looks pretty low.

As most others say….. my answer would be pretty much “nope” .
I would look for a different place to buy.
Unless you are getting a good enough deal on that place to be able to remedy that problem - I would say no.

I would just say no. Hell, no,
My daughter's primary residence has spiral stairs from back yard to upper porch, and her beach house has them to the third floor observation deck. Way too much trouble for an old guy to navigate.
