Any mower mechanics on here? ZT1 50 with 23hp Kawasaki FR691V engine. Spitting, surging and dying after 10 minutes of running

Brother's old tractor acted like that at one time. Seems part of the gas cap rubber seal had broke off and was clogging up the fuel line screen. Once it was cleaned, runs like a 48 Ford tractor should.
I’ll buy it for $100 if you can deliver ? Just kidding. There is a spring that connects in the carburetor area. Mine did the same thing. It ended up being broke. Check the spring.
Have you removed the spark plugs and checked the condition of them? Is the engine running rich or lean? Abnormal smells of excess fuel or oil vapors?
Get a spark tester and test the spark at the spark plugs while it's running. Look for a intermittent miss in operation, might have the mag leads shorting out from contact with the engine block. Also verify valve lash and adjust as required.

If it’s got a separate fuel pump it could be tied to it. Had trouble once from one not operating correctly.
