Any self taught welders?

Realizing frequently how nice it would be to have the know how. Strictly for personal use.
Is it reasonable feasible to teach yourself how to do it RIGHT?

?? as in teach yourself a technique ?? what to do, google has posts that will show some good 'knowledge'
but as you "weld' near impossible to see yourself, and you need to get pointers on what you are doing right & wrong .... can be done but a slow process by yourself

I use to build satellite bases for roofs. Self taught. Sand the area really well you're going to weld.

Welding is like alot of other maker skills prep and knowing what setting stick wire etc for what application is imperative. If you are welding the same thing alot its really about getting set up and practicing that said general welding of a variety has a steep and expensive learning curve.

Stick/Arc welding, yes. Lots of good youtube video tutorials...

Stay away from stainless till you know how.....

One of my partners taught himself using one of my Harbor Freight welders. His kid raced the go carts and midgets.

Easy peasy. I put a mig gun in the ex's hand and she did fine. Same with the oxy-acetylene torch.

Prep is 95% of the job for sure

Yeah, I put mine in my Ex's hand, she got good at it, took it to the street ........ well I think she's still there LOL
