Any Suggestions For Good Quailty Over The Ears Headphones?

I've had a pair of Bose Quiet Comfort 2 headphones for years now, but, long story short, they've done up and gone to headphone heaven in the sky.

So, I went on Amazon to perhaps buy another pair. Holy crap! So many choices. I'm more confused than a newborn in a room full of titties!

Any of y'all got any recommendations? Or ones to stay away from? I'm not really interested in being trendy (I don't care what kind of 'cans' some rapper or NBA star are reppin' these days). I mainly listen to classic rock/country/old school R&B. I'd like to keep it $300 or less.

Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I haven't bought headphones in probably 20 years so I'm not current- at all

But comparing reviews from tech mags might be a starting point. Try to find some models that get high ratings from multiple comparisons.

After you narrow down some candidates, try visiting Best buy or other electronics stores and see if you can listen to them live.

I'd also check out AVS Forums. There should be a headphones forum that you can see what other folks are recommending.

I got a pair of the inexpensive seinhiser for the sound board at church. I and the kids loved them, playing before I took them there.

The brands that I know of, and Consumer reports recommends shure srh1440 for stereo and bose and audio technica sonic pro ath-m for noise canceling

In for answers I am on a plane now have the old school Bose Quiet Comfort I am sure there are better choices now but these still work well...for now

Edit! Sorry, wrong post.. I still have my bose quite comfort and a few others. It seems like the technology has taken some leaps. I've listened to my nephews BEATS and they sound great...Or I'm going deaf, not sure

I would look at a pair of Sony MDR-7506 ($79.99 at Amazon). Sony MDR-V6 would be another good choice. Both are out of Sony's professional line (not the "Pro" fashion series) and some of the most durable and best sounding headphones that I know of. They're used heavily in broadcast and live sound, so parts like replacement ear-pads are also readily available. I have a pair of Sony V600's (earlier version of the V6) that are easily 15 years old and still going strong after many hours of use and abuse doing live sound.

Audio Technica, Sennheiser and AKG also make great headphones that are much better than the current "fashion" headphone like Beats, etc...

Short answer : Sennheiser HD 558 at Best Buy for $79.98. This is a smoking deal on these.

Longer answer: What will you be listening through? Phone/ipod, receiver, computer headphone jack, etc? Do you want open or closed headphones? Those Sennheisers at Best Buy would be easy enough to return if they didn't pass the audition.

Anything Sennheiser, AKG, or Beyerdynamic probably can't go too far wrong. Beats are grossly overpriced for what they sound like. Sony varies model to model. You can check out head-fi.org for more information and reviews than you could possibly want.

Sorry, I shoulda gave more info. I would primarily be listening thru my MacBook, iPhone, and I still have an iPod that I listen to quite a lot. I would want a cord (while I'm sure wireless is handy, I've really got no use for that technology. I'm an old fart). I would want closed headphones, that way I wouldn't disturb others if I use them in a social situation.
