Any Suggestions For Good Quailty Over The Ears Headphones?

Sorry, I shoulda gave more info. I would primarily be listening thru my MacBook, iPhone, and I still have an iPod that I listen to quite a lot. I would want a cord (while I'm sure wireless is handy, I've really got no use for that technology. I'm an old fart). I would want closed headphones, that way I wouldn't disturb others if I use them in a social situation.

For closed-back and easy to drive headphones, I'd be looking at the Sennheiser HD-598 CS, the Sony MD-7506's that were mentioned by DanKATL, or maybe something like the Audio-Technica ATH-M50x. Of those, I can only personally vouch for the Sony MD-7506, which is rock solid and a classic. I'm a big Sennheiser fan (HD-580, which are open), so if I was looking for closed-back headphones, those would be the first I'd check out.

Bottom line is you've got lots of great options, all well under your budget. It's a subjective thing - you may have to try a few before you find what's just right for you.

Do you want active noise cancellation? Do they need to fold and have a Garry case for travel? I have the psb m4u2 paid less than 300 from best buy when they were on sale. I really like them. had sennheiser pxc 250s

Short answer : Sennheiser HD 558 at Best Buy for $79.98. This is a smoking deal on these.

Longer answer: What will you be listening through? Phone/ipod, receiver, computer headphone jack, etc? Do you want open or closed headphones? Those Sennheisers at Best Buy would be easy enough to return if they didn't pass the audition.

Anything Sennheiser, AKG, or Beyerdynamic probably can't go too far wrong. Beats are grossly overpriced for what they sound like. Sony varies model to model. You can check out head-fi.org for more information and reviews than you could possibly want.

Thanks, errbody! I'm picking up a pair of the Sennheiser's Mk1a Mk1a suggested at Best Buy later today. I'll let you know what I think, but the reviews are off the charts positive!

I would look at a pair of Sony MDR-7506 ($79.99 at Amazon). Sony MDR-V6 would be another good choice. Both are out of Sony's professional line (not the "Pro" fashion series) and some of the most durable and best sounding headphones that I know of. They're used heavily in broadcast and live sound, so parts like replacement ear-pads are also readily available. I have a pair of Sony V600's (earlier version of the V6) that are easily 15 years old and still going strong after many hours of use and abuse doing live sound.

Audio Technica, Sennheiser and AKG also make great headphones that are much better than the current "fashion" headphone like Beats, etc...

^^^ THIS! I also have done live and studio sound and there's no reason to settle for the over priced consumer crap when you can get professional grade gear for the same money (if not less al la 'beats')!! Go to Guitar Center, they have cans you can listen to and make up your own mind. At least you'll get an idea of the difference in brands and comfort.

I used to be a spec fanatic and could honestly hear subtle differences in the highest end gear. No more (or I'm too lazy to pay attention or yeah, my hearing is old... ;) ).
It is amazing to me now what very modestly priced stuff can sound like (and simultaneously how awful some really high priced stuff can sound). For example, I bought a couple of pairs of these https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00WE1RWCC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
One for my wife and one for my son. They absolutely love them and I was stunned at the quality of the sound given the dirt cheap cost.
I get it states FR of 20Hz-20kHz,Sensitivity:-52dB+/-3dB but I was expecting that to be a flat out lie. It appears it is not.
Granted, that is probably not what you are looking for but just a plug to say, when it comes to electronics anyway, price isn't always indicative of quality.
Although the good thing about those linked, if you leave them on a plane, who cares?

Alright gang, I tried the HD-558's. The Pros were they are very comfy, well built, and for the money sound really good. The Cons were the open ear design had a surprising amount of bleed thru, and allowed a surprising amount of outside noise in, and the cord is about 9 feet long (I kid you not, the joker has a cord from here to China).

I decided that they were not what I was looking for, so I returned them to Best Buy. Props to Best Buy, they were very nice and gave me a refund with zero trouble.

So, probably gonna try the Sony's that so many of you recommended next. I wish I could pony up the $350 for the Bose QC 35's, but damn, that's a lot of coin.
