I am looking at setting some traps for some call weary coyotes. Checked and it looks like I am going to have to get a trappers license. Even though i have no intention of selling off any furs.

Talked to my local game warden and she believes i will need one as well. She is going to give me a definitive answer tomorrow.

I have looked at all available traps. For those of you that do trap whats the pros and cons with the common traps.

I run a couple of trap lines year round, if you've never trapped before, then do some reading and research before you start, and I'd probably start with a different animal besides coyotes first and get some experience, they are VERY difficult to trap, smart little bastards.

Great advise, yotes are far from easy. Double coil springs are the easiest trap to work and hide, seems I was using 1.75s but I could be wrong, been out of it for more than 20yrs, when the prices crashed out.

I was looking at it as an option for coyotes that wont respond to calls. Not really looking to make money on hides. And of course if the fox population was reduced that would the turkeys.

If trapping on your own land you still need a license, it will be free after completing the paper work. If you do not own the land you will still need a license and it is a $30 fee. Basicly any and all trapping requires a license.

This license runs by calender year, not date of purchase, January 1, 2013 - December 31,2013.
