Anybody been to Anniston CMP lately?

Is this qualification necessary every time you go, or just once per rifle and shooter? Then you're good on future trips?

Kuduman what kind of rifle do you have that only has a 200 round barrel life?

6.5x284, and it's about 500 before accuracy starts falling off. A 30 round qualification is significant, considering it takes 50-100 to establish a good load.

I understand the point, but how about one shot into the 10 ring at 200, and I'll show you my data book? Should be plenty indicative. Or how about the pictures from last time at 600? : )

Was really asking to see if there was some reasonable way around wasting the ammo. There are other ways to tell if one is clueless and about to shoot up the expensive targets.

If i remember correctly it costs around 2,000 or so to repair those targets. Proving you can hit a bit more than the road side of a barn is not unreasonable. I can remember having to qualify on the pistol range early on there. Today of you have a NRA pistol qualification at a certain level they figure you can shoot. Same probably goes on the high power range.

Remember the CMP is a private organization

One round is reasonable. Thirty is not.

Honestly I was absolutely SHOCKED the first time I went there and they let you start blasting away at 600 out of the box.
I get the annoyance, but if I owned the range, there'd DEFINITELY be some form of qualification. 30 rounds does seem overkill. But... I'm not replacing those electronics either....

I dont find it unreasonable. Didnt used to be like that. The reason for the new policy probably has a lot to do with the consequences for not having the policy. Probably got tired of folks damaging their expensive equipment. It is a nice range. Talladega has the same rule now if I'm not mistaken.

One of the ranges I use for classes a lot, the 1,000yd range at Elk River Training Center in Pelham TN, has a qual course. You only need to pass it if you want to run the 1,000yd range, or shoot certain calibers like .338 Lapua.

That wasn't unreasonable at all imo...

10 per yardage/per rifle seems excessive but their range, their rules.

As far as I know it's still 3 rounds per yardage not 10. I was there last around just 2 months ago. There may be some assumptions/miscommunications in this thread that should be verified. I could also be wrong or it has changed but I believe it is still 3 rounds in black per yardage.
