Anyone adopted a baby?

Long story short, my wife and I can't have kids naturally. We can do IVF but its $15,000 and only a 60% success rate. We don't have $15,000 to gamble on that.
So, we are looking to adopt. Which ain't cheap either but its kinda guaranteed. Anyone have tips or pointers? Is there a way to adopt that's not ridiculously expensive? We are looking into the foster care system but we were told it could take 3 years or so to get a baby thats available for adoption.

On a side note........its really sad that they make it so difficult and expensive to adopt. They claim all these babies are in need of adoption but they just want to stuff their pockets with more money. The last agency we talked to wanted over $14,000 in just their fees!

My BIL is good friends with someone who takes care of adoptions. The husband of the pair is working on getting his law degree so that they can streamline there operation and make it less expensive for the adopters. But I don't know what less expensive amounts to. They have adopted 6 I think. I'll get with him later today to see what info I can get.
I am sorry to hear what you and your wife are going through. Good for you and your wife for doing this, there are a lot of good kids that need a good loving home to be in. I have a lot of friends that have gone through this. What I have seen is that it's a long hard road to plow though.

And one of the couples found out they were pregnant the day they brought the adopted kid home. 2 for 1!

My co-worker adopted a baby, I think they waited ~1.5 years. From what I was told newborns are tough for adoption so good luck there. Ended up going through 2 or 3 agencies as well since they had to get "matched".

I'm sure you're aware, but there are sizable tax benefits from adoption as well to help offset the costs. IIRC they aren't refunds but can significantly reduce your tax liability.

Yeah fostering is cheaper but it can be a pain. We have already started that process but they said it can take years to find a baby or infant.

My ex-wife and I were childless for about 11 years through no fault of our own and had given up and tried to adopt while we were in Greece. The Greeks didn't want to have anything to do with us so I tried a private adoption and that would have cost about 25k and would not have been guaranteed that we could get the baby out of Greece at the time. So, we basically gave up, quit thinking about it and a month later boom, she was pregnant (didn't have much to do at the time, household goods were shipped back to the states, Ham radio was shipped, had seen all the movies at the base theater and had read all the magazine in the book store and TV wasn't very good so what else do you do but have a lot of sex. It worked

Could you adopt a foster child from the state ? Seems like a way to get closer to the source
