I've got an old jeep that I'd like repainted and don't want to spend over 600 on it. How bad does a maaco paint job look? Anyone here a car painter?

Guy I used to work with had his car done there and the actual paint job looked pretty good. Some of the prep work did not appear to be top notch but I think most of the money for a paint job goes into the prep of the car. Do most of the pre-paint body work and you'll probably be very satisfied.

Had one done by them many years ago. I had the prep done by another shop and then it was painted at Maaco - came out very nice and held up...

I had a Cherokee I bought for my daughter painted there, they had a special on. For the money I think they did a good job, think it was about 3-400? A friend of mine had a Cherokee Limited painted by the Maaco in Conyers, He got the top of the line job, cost about a grand but it looked factory. Included the factory decal stripes and lettering.

My friend is an auto body instructor at a local trade school said if you get the prep done yourself, no worries. If you let them do prep, don't expect much

Several years ago, I had my son's old beater painted by them. Heck, it looked great. Do the prep work yourself to save some money.

Don't do it if you care about your jeep, you will get your money's worth, also if you plan on selling it to someone that knows what a good paint job looks like it will diminish the value significantly, once you put on cheap paint there's no getting it off at a low price.Decent paint for a car which consist of this list below cost 800 to 1200 per job and different colors cost more than other's.you will always get what you pay for in a paint job if their not ripping you off. labor and materials go together, people who use crap materials will do crap prep job, people who spend 2 grand on materials don't want them to come off so they will spend more time prepping.Below are items needed.

some amount of primer
primer hardener
primer reducer
basecoat
basecoat hardener
basecoat reducer
clearcoat
clearcoat hardener
clearcoat reducer
sandpaper (not for maaco)
grease/wax remover
towels
tack rags
and the list goes on

This is the truth. You get what you pay for.

I have folks that come in all the time at my shop and want me to price match Maaco. I have to explain to them its $600 because they cut so many corners.

My basic paint job starts at $1800 and goes up. If you want a half-ass job, go to Maaco. If you want a factory finish - check out another reputable body shop.

I think it would be fine for an older Jeep that you just want to get some extra life out of. If you can find someone to help you prep it then the finished work will look a lot better because it is the detail work around the door handles, glass, etc. that you notice. I have had several friends use Macco on older cars and they looked pretty good.
