Anyone for a Dollar tree challenge?

just finished with lunch
bought a bean and rice meal pack from the dollar tree
made almost 3 quarts of beans and rice taste good, has 190 cal. per serving --says 4 servings per box??? may be 5 instead
price $1.07 had to add 3and 1/2cups of water and took 20 min to cook
I will be doing this again

Ok, here is a $2 entry. Long term storage is no problem. 10.5 oz and a very filling meal for 1 at 925 calories or for 2 people at 462.5 calories. (That's just one meal not really the 2 or 3 we are used to eating) but yummy good and a 5 minute preparation time

Here are a few light packable foods which came for dollar tree and big lots. They don't need water or heat to prepare with the exception of the noodles. They are light and compact as well. I'll keep adding more as I find them. dollar tree food.jpg

When I think of long term and portable I think of sealed mylar bags that you just open up and add hot water. With a dehydrator and a vacuum sealer add beans, rice, and /or pasta, dehydrated veggies, and some salt, pepper, seasoning to taste. Might even chop up some of my home made beef jerky to go in there.

I realize that they don't sell 10# cans of freeze dried chicken at the Dollar stores, but most everything else could probably be found on the cheap.

I have these from dollar tree in my desk incase I'm stuck in the office and can't get lunch. 3 packs for $1. 1 pack is 180 calories
