Anyone have a well carried high end 1911?

I really do not get it almost all I hear from people with 1911's (I don't want to scratch it) like it is something special it is a piece of metal nothing more. If that's your concerned over it then why even buy it.

The idea is I would like a used custom gun at maybe close to new kimber production money, because it isnt as "pretty" as it used to be.

On the stainless, it bothers me that not all stainless is created equal. Blued guns are almost always 4130, a very good, hard steel. "Stainless" can be somewhat close to the strength of 4130, but it depends on the grade. Manufactures seem to never post the specific grade of SS they use. Corrosion resistance also isnt a problem for me cause I tend to keep them well lubricated. I also like darker colored guns better if that matters at all. I would like a gun made of 17-7ph stainless though. Its a great steel, and not nearly as bright colored.

Maybe I should just keep saving, and get one new.

One of the reasons I've heard not to carry a high-end pistol for sd is because if you have to use it, you may not get it back for a long time.

Good luck in your search.

I have a Nighthawk Custom built by Larry Vickers of Vickers Tactical (yes mine was a production Nighthawk that I had LAV do). I have around $5000 in the gun and I carry it everyday. Pistols are tools. Mine just cost more than most!

STI is what i am leaning towards. The seem to be great weapons that fall between kimbers prices and some of the other offerings like Baer and WC.

That is a great looking 2011 truegiant, but i prefer single stack 1911's.
