Anyone take melatonin?

It might work for you and it might not. I have to take Ambien every night or I will not sleep at all. If you have insurance just visit your Dr. and the generic is only $10 a month for me and it works.

I wouldn't use ambien long term, no matter what your doc thinks. It was originally suppose to be a 14 day treatment, now doctors throw it at anyone with sleeping problems. It isnt a true benzo, butit does bind near the same receptors. Not a long term solution.

Benadryl is Trade Mark for the old school anti-histamine, and pretty innocuous; look for diphenhydramine HCL, 25 mg, as a generic at dollar stores.
It definitely makes most people drowsy; acutally a benefit when kids get stung by bees, etc.
In fact, the original OTC sleep-aid, Sominex is nothing but Benadryl.
It is also safe to use on dogs.
So add it to your BOB/GHB's first aid kit.

FYI:
Sominex = Benadryl
zzzQuil = Benadryl
Kroger Allergy Pills = Benadryl
Tylenol PM = Benadryl + acetaminophen (Tylenol)
Excedrin PM = Benadryl + acetaminophen

I'm forgetting several other brand names, but you get the idea.

Most of the liquid "night time" cold remedies also include....alcohol.
No surprise, it is a depressant.

Hey, I like Chamomile tea as a sleep aid....w/ a couple shots!
The chamomile part is optional....

Some people need stronger prescription drugs like Ambien and the others mentioned, but try the simple, cheap solution and work your way up.

I am NOT a fan of the $6+billion a year snake-oil industry known as "nutritional supplements."
They are untested, unregulated, unproven chemicals that render a homeopathic alternative to a proven solution.
Some contain chemicals that are similar to credible pharmaceuticals, so they may provide some relief.

My point is, why use them when there are plenty of drugs available that were specifically designed, tested and approved for a specified problem at an effective dosage level? To be approved, they also have side effects and drug interactions documented.

Not all are untested or unproven, but yes, many are. And diphenhydramine can be activating in children, so be aware.
