I've got a Vermont casting defiant encore 2140 that needs some work done on it and I must admit I don't know anything about heaters.

I actually got it from my grand father and he took it apart because the damper was staying wide open and couldn't adjust it. I assume the cable broke or came off. While he had it apart he left my nephew stab the ceramic box that's in it and broke it all to hell so I know it needs one of them but I don't know how to tell if the cat should be replaced or if it's OK nor do I know how to assemble it back. Also should I put new gaskets on it or should they be fine?

I would check their website or give them a call. They used to have the owners manuals available online that had exploded drawings and parts list. I know some parts for mine are no longer available and the combustor parts are very expensive. I have been able to reuse all my gaskets so far but they are pretty fragile. Be careful with them and you should be OK.
