If you want to learn the basics of military marksmanship, an Appleseed event is one of the best and cheapest instruction out there. It is geared towards beginners and intermediate shooters. Teaching sling techniques in prone, sitting, kneeling, and standing. For men it is $50 for Sat, $80 for Sat and Sun. Women is $20 a day. Kids get in free for every adult that brings them.
I've taken the course before and it made me a much better marksman.
Shooting is done at 25yards. 22lr rifles are the best. Iron sights or scopes.
