Appliances dangit - worth fixing ?

The new (about a year old) high dollar GE refrigerators and dishwashers are junk too. Cost too much to be working on already. Maybe we got lemons at Lowe’s?
I think its just cheap construction for the higher GE tag. There's no reason a door sensor should go out at all, let alone in 4 years. I've noticed nothing but problems out of everything else GE I've seen as well.

I was used to changing a belt on our Old GE washer once every 10 years and the cooling fan ($12) on our Sears refrigerator every 5-6 years ; easy fixes. Almost everything is “modular” now (throw away) in my experience so far.

These last a lifetime….

Keep it if you can fix it.
You Tube is a great place to learn how to fix them.
Fox Appliance parts.
Forget Evil Bay and Amazon, parts for appliances are junk.
I have bought several different parts for different appl.
Had to return all of them and drive across town when Fox opened.
Have a 3 year old washing machine, been repaired 4 times.
8 year old refer, repaired 3 times.

Sounds like a transmission problem. High speed spins runs in reverse. If you can hear the motor running but no spin..it's likely the trans. If you can't hear the motor then maybe the timer. Parts are available$ and so is a whole tranmission$$$. Fix it if you can.. Replace all shaft seals if you tear it down. Use Permatex High Tack on the trans case cover.

We went thru a similar 'choice', only our 25+ y/o washer had seen a couple repairmen over the years, but the last crap out was enough to call for a new one. The store would deliver the new one, but if we wanted the old washer carted off it would be $45, but if we only wanted it 'moved' it would be $35! I got it into the garage and out of the way by myself, tore it apart for the scrap yard and it sits in the yard waiting to be hauled away. Good luck!

I've had a Whirlpool washer and dryer for 25 years. Only fix needed has been a door switch on the washer. Now the washer has stopped spin drying, the motor sounds like it's running and the rest of the cycle completed fine. Looking online there's almost too much information about potential fixes !

Naturally the wife needs it fixed yesterday, and is making that need exceptionally clear........

I've checked the door switch, I'll check the belt tomorrow, one other possible culprit is a "shift actuator" ? Think I can test that with a multimeter.

If it's not one of those is it worth messing around with it any more, or just go shopping ?
Nope. Buy another Whirlpool or Maytag and be done with it.
