Where are you going to get a chance to pop a cap at 1,000 yards? I can go 200 yards with an AR pistol.
1:8 is a hair bit fast for the lighter end of the .308 spectrum (<168gr) to the best of my knowledge. It should shine with heavies (>168gr). I don't believe you'll see a degradation in performance running 150s through it though.
My trigger time on .308 is limited to mostly 168gr through a 1:10 though. Someone that has diddled this particular .308 Skittle should come along shortly to provide some more substantial insight.

8 twist in a 308 seems excessive. Thats what you run to stabilize 220+ gr in a 30 cal tube. 150s should still shoot fine. Just don't run a can until you are 100% sure you aren't shedding jackets
OP are you looking at an AR10 platform in 6.5CM? That would be a 1:8 twist. Most ARs are 1:10 for .308 win. The 1:8 is specific to very heavy .308 rounds.

I have an AR pistol in 7.62x39. At 200 yards it’ll do the job. I have no problem with the 308 round. It is well suited out to 1,000 yards.
Again the real question is are you going to pop caps or pop caps past 200 yards? Each308 round will cost 3 or 4 7.62x39 rounds
My primary .308 bolt gun has an 18” 1:8” barrel. Shoots 175’s fantastically well. Shot 5 rounds of 175’s into .179MOA at 100yds. They run great out past 1,000yds.
I’ve started running 185grn Berger Juggernauts, but don’t have a lot of range time as of yet. They are phenomenal at intermediate barrier penetration.
