AR-15 Lesson: What is your Jack of All Trades?

My "do it all" rifle is a Daniel defense m4a1 with a primary arms 1-6 acss scope in an American Defense qd mount. I also added a primary arms 700 lumen weapons light in a Daniel Defense mount, swapped the stock for a magpul ubr and added a giessele ssa-e trigger. She shoots clover leafs at 50 and about moa at 100. I would have gone for a higher end optic but other than a leupold mark 6 or an elcan specter dr 1/4 I couldn't find another scope as versatile as the pa 1-6. The acss reticle has hold overs out to 800 yds and the subtensions range based on height and width. Its like getting an acog reticle in a 1-6 scope. The 1x is true 1x, and is way more natural than the leupold mark ar I tried that was a 1.5x. Target acquisition is way easier with true 1x. I also like that since the scope is a laser etched illuminated reticle it works as its own back up sight. Even if the battery goes dead and the center dot wont light up it is still there. One thing I learned is that "does it all" means you gotta carry it all, and this rifle is heavier than my others. The only thing I need to finish it is a set of buis and I guess I am going with KAC micros.

I have that same scope and it is pretty nice. Very versatile and has held up well.

I'm trying to buy that scope but they're sold out.

Yeah. I signed up for an email notification and when I got the email on my phone I snagged one up real quick. I figured I'd go ahead and invest in the AD mount while I was at it. I'm glad I did. Really I was buying the reticle over the scope. It works so well and is so stupid simple I really want to know how the hell this type of reticle is not in a leupold or at least a Nikon. I tried the leupold mark ar and my complaints with it are it was not true 1x and the reticle was marked in 2.5 mils... first of all I think in yards, not meters, but even if I make the effort to think in meters it become a pain in the ass to range stuff with 2.5 mil hashes. The ACSS reticle just plain works. The good news is that the scope seems to be quality. I don't know that it is "bomb proof" so to speak, but you can tell that the construction is much better than say cheapo tasco or weaver or other lower end scopes. The glass is better than expected for the price point.

Aero Precision upper and lower...simple and it fires every time I pull the trigger. Built for me by an armorer at PWS MCB Quantico.

Here's my only AR, so it kinda has to do all the jobs.
I'm debating if I want to add a bipod or not. That, handstop, sling, and light are really the only things left I'm considering adding but I also don't want a rifle that is super heavy. Is a bipod worth it with just a strikefire with the 2x mag adaptor?
I want to build another upper with nice glass and have a bipod on that but that won't be for a long time, but since this is a do it all AR would a bipod be a good addition to it? And if I had a bipod, would I have enough room on the 13in rail for a handstop?

I keep a bipod for sighting in but don't find much use for it beyond that...I don't shoot from a rest all that often.

This is my do-it-all, Hunting, Home defense, SHTF, and range rifle.

Barret 18in 6.8 upper in stainless with Troy alpha rail and PWS brake/flash-hider, Lightweight Magpul furniture on C3 billet lower, 3-9x40 Zeiss Conquest, 4lb custom single stage battle trigger.

I'm a firm believer in optics, because the bad guys don't usually stand out in the open with their entire body exposed. For home defense, I don't need no stinkin' sights. If you can't hit a guy 10 steps away with a semi-automatic rifle, let's face it, you shouldn't own one. 6.8 lets me hunt deer and hogs with confidence. It's not as cheap as 556, but I'm more interested in long range put down power and accuracy. The 18in White Oak stainless barrel is far more accurate then I am with Hornady factory ammo and is tons of fun at the range.
