AR Advice

Don't give up hope, the ban isn't here yet. Manufacturers are still making them and distributors and dealers are still getting them. Even now moreso because they trying to get all the money they can before they can't sell them anymore.

Classic City has some Polymer lowers.. A complete lower is $109.. Replace the pivot pins with metal ones and you are GTG. PSA actually has the shortest wait time. Even if you get it in 25 days like I did.. I've been seeing most places ship in 6 weeks or more. $400 for upper.. $109 for lower.. brings you just over $500 and not to mention you can get a hell of a lightweight AR. IF they do ban the rifles your rifle will then be considered a Preban so you can easily sell it for over twice the amount you paid for it later if you want.

You can still find high end rifles but all entry levels have all sold withing the day. Ammo is going up every time i call and ask for price. Cost of ownership is cheap, cost of operating is expensive.

Goodluck

I would like a little advice from some of the AR platform guys here. I am thinking maybe this might a good time to own one given recent events. I have an AK now, but thought when I bought it that I'd also like to own an AR as well some day if I could ever come up with the money. Money is still an issue since I have very limited income right now, so what's the best way out? Build your own, or buy one already built? I've seen them at wally world of all places recently, one was only around $650.00, I was thinking that wasn't all that bad compared to the original Colts I've seen. I'm also interested in cost of ownership, I know 223 ammo prices along with most of the rest of it has gone way up in price. I hear the biggest reason for this is the gubbmint is buying all it can get its dirty damn hands on. But, I've just gotten in to reloading so I may be able to reduce that somewhat if I can pick up some brass at the range.

A bit late, but they're still being built. I researched them for a year before buying one second hand. Then I learned I didn't know nearly as much as I thought! For someone new to the game, I would recommend buying one from a reputable manufacturer so that you don't have to do your own troubleshooting if it gives you issues. For a good, entry-level AR, I don't think you can go wrong with an S&W M&P15, a Rock River Arms, or even a Bushmaster (maybe). Several friends have bought from Palmetto State Armory and have been happy with their purchases (although some say their customer service can be spotty).

Yes, I have the knowledge & tools to build my own, but it's kind of like building a PC. If you have an issue; is it the motherboard, the video card, the hard drive, the cabling, or the drivers that are giving you the problem?

Good luck, they're a lot of fun!

What about a DPMS, I think that's the one I seen at Wal Mart a while back for $647.00 I believe?

DPMS is a good mid-level brand. I've owned a few in the past. Never had any issue with them. Good luck finding them at WalMart though...they've reportedly removed them from their shelves, along with Academy and Dicks.

You can sign up for an account at Aim Surpus and get on their email waiting list... I'm currently on the one for another AR lower. Just make sure to order immediately when they send you the "in stock" email. I missed out on several chances until I finally ordered just as soon as the email showed up.

Sweeter words have never been spoken methinks!

I don't what I'll do with it since I can't find ammo or mags for it that I won't have to give my firstborn for. Maybe I'll just beat the jack booted thug over the head with it. Anyone know of a good place to buy reloading supplies between exit 44 and 114 on I-20?
